Environmental Studies Research Guide

This guide is designed to help you find resources and get started with research in the Environmental Sciences.

Where to find books

Most print books available for check out are in the MAIN COLLECTION on the 3rd and 4th floors of Walsh Library.

To find a print book, you need to know the call number, which you can find by using the "search books" tab above the search box on the library home page.

Because Environmental Studies is so interdisciplinary you may find books in many areas.  Here are some suggestions:

  • GE1-350  Environmental Sciences;   GN   Human ecology / environmental anthropology
  • QC 851-999  Climatology;   QH 301-705.5 Biology (General)
  • TD 1-1060  Environmental Technology

You can also search for and access eBooks through either the "search books" or "search eBooks" tabs.

Print book delivery and pickup

The library is open so you can come and browse the book stacks for yourself, but we offer other options through our HOLD service:

  • From the library homepage, click on FIND at the top left of the page and select BOOKS. Search for the item that you want using the basic or advanced book search box (the advanced search is best if you know the title and author's last name).
  • Sign in to your library account on the top right of the page so that we know who you are when you request a book!
  • From the book record page, click the "Place Hold" button- usually a large blue square on the right.
  • When your items are available for pick-up you will receive an email asking how you would like to get them:
  • Pick-up at the library - inside at the circulation desk   OR
  • Home Delivery - If you are unable to make it to campus, we can send the items via UPS to your residence, along with a return mailer.

Note:  IF we don't have the book you want, try Interlibrary borrowing. (Just be aware that many libraries will not lend out text books)
