Illness and Literature CORE 3370/ENGLS 3412: Access Print and E-books

Literature, Culture and History: Print Books

Our print collection is located on the THIRD and FOURTH floor of Walsh Library. Works about language and literature can be found in the P call number range (PR is English literature and PS is American literature). Works about history can be found in the D, E, and F call number range.  See the LC Classification Schedule for for a breakdown of this schema.

To find a print book you'll need to be able to interpret the library catalog and physically go to the library.

Take the author, Daniel Defoe, for example. The books by and about Daniel Defoe are located in proximity to each other in the PR3406 range on the fourth floor.

To find books by Daniel Defoe, do an AUTHOR search for Defoe, Daniel or do a SUBJECT BROWSE search for Defoe, Daniel to find information about his work. Most literary criticism is found under the heading, Defoe, Daniel, 1661?-1731--Criticism and interpretation.

It's important that you know how to read a bibliographic record in order to find a book at our libraries (Walsh, Seminary, and Special Collections). See if you can decipher this record. Who is the author? Where is the book shelved? Is it in the library?
