(ProQuest) contains nearly 1800 worldwide business periodicals for in-depth coverage of business and economic conditions, management techniques, theory, and practice of business, advertising, marketing, economics, human resources, finance, taxation, computers, and more. A substantial amount of articles are in full text. Coverage: 1971 to current.

ABI / INFORM DATELINE (ProQuest) focuses on local and regional business news coverage of large corporations, privately held companies, local start-ups, executive profiles, marketing, finance, and industry news. Articles are gathered from major business tabloids, magazines, daily newspapers, wire services, and city, state, and regional business publications. A substantial amount of articles are in full text. Coverage: 1985 to current.

ABI / INFORM TRADE & INDUSTRY (ProQuest) searches more than 750 business periodicals and newsletters with a trade or industry focus. Provides users with the latest industry news, product and competitive information, marketing trends, and a wide variety of other topics. Contains publications on every major industry, including finance, insurance, transportation, construction, and many more. Coverage: 1971 to current.

ACADEMIC SEARCH PREMIER
(EBSCOhost) is a multi-disciplinary database containing the full-text of more than 3000 scholarly journals. The diverse content covers social sciences, humanities, education, computer sciences, languages and linguistics, arts and literature, medical sciences and ethnic studies.

ACADEMIC UNIVERSE LEXIS NEXIS covers nearly 5,000 publications, most of which are available in full text (ascii format). There are five main sections of which the most comprehensive are news, business, medical, and reference, of which the first three are the most comprehensive.  Dates of coverage vary by publication.  There is full text of The New York Times (from 1980) and other major newspapers.

AMERICA: HISTORY AND LIFE offers reference information on a wide array of subject areas covering various aspects of American and Canadian history from prehistory to the present.  This resource features references, abstracts, and media reviews and abstract entries from over 2,000 different journals encompassing over 400,000 individual records published since 1964.

ANNUAL REVIEWS provides systematic, periodic examinations of scholarly advances in a number of fields of science and social science through critical authoritative reviews. The comprehensive critical review summarizes a topic, evaluates the state of research on that topic, and lists relevant published research in lengthy bibliographies.

ANTHROPOLOGICAL INDEX indexes periodicals in the fields of physical and cultural anthropology, archaeology and linguistics.  Additional topics covered are art, demography, economics, ethno-history, folklore, geography, geology and psychology.

ART DICTIONARY (The Grove Dictionary of Art) is “the most comprehensive online reference resource for all aspects of the visual arts worldwide from prehistory to the present day.” The Grove Dictionary of Art contains 45,000 articles on every aspect of the visual arts - painting, sculpture, graphic arts, architecture, decorative arts and photography - from prehistory to the present day. Compiled over a period of 15 years, it represents the work of more than 6,800 scholars from around the world. A print version of this database by the same name is located on the shelves in the Reference area of the University Libraries (Ref. N31.D5 1996).

ART INDEX is a bibliographic database that includes articles from periodicals published throughout the world. Periodical coverage includes English language periodicals as well as French, Italian, German, Japanese, Spanish, Dutch and Swedish. In addition to articles, this database indexes reproductions of works of art that appear in indexed periodicals. Some of the subjects covered include: advertising art, antiques, archaeology, architecture, museology, art history, graphic arts, industrial design, video, and more.

ARTstor: Produced by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, this database provides a repository of hundreds of thousands of digital images and related data. The mission of the project is "to enhance scholarship, teaching and learning in the arts and associated fields."

ATLA (RELIGION) from the American Theological Association features citations for articles published in periodicals and journals, and essays and articles published in multi-author monographs, and book reviews.  It covers biblical studies, church history, world religions and religious perspectives dealing with social issues and related subject areas.  This resource covers 1949-1988 and 1989-present.  The print equivalents are Religion Index One (Periodicals) 1949-present, Religion Index Two (Multi-Author Works) 1960-present, and Index to Book Reviews in Religion 1975-present. 

BANKING INFORMATION SOURCE (ProQuest) contains more than 250 of the most important publications that provide information on the financial services industry. Coverage: 1971 to current.

BASIC BIOSIS covers the basic core of life science journals found in college and university libraries.  It lists references from virtually every life science discipline, including: agriculture, ecology, neuroscience, biochemistry, environment, nutrition, biology, genetics, physiology, biotechnology, medicine, public health, botany and microbiology.  Coverage is from 1994 to the present.

BIBLIOGRAPHY OF THE HISTORY OF ART (BHA) is the world's most extensive abstracting and indexing service for current literature on Art History in Europe and the Americas. It surveys visual arts from late antiquity to the present. Access is provided to over 175,000 bibliographic records in periodicals, books, exhibition catalogues, conference proceedings and bibliographies. Although 45 languages are represented in the database, the software and index terms are available in English and/or French.

BIOLOGICAL ABSTRACTS (BIOSIS) is a comprehensive index to life science and biomedical research. Each year BIOSIS adds more than 560,000 references from more than 5,500 sources including more than 5,000 international journals, published meetings, symposia and workshops, patents, book and software reviews. It is multidisciplinary covering, among other areas, Applied Zoology, Behavior and Ecology, Biotechnology, Medicine, Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Physiology, and Plant Sciences.

BUSINESS ABI-INFORM (on Proquest) covers business and management subjects including accounting and taxation, banking and finance, economics, government, health care, human resources, labor relations, marketing, public administration, real estate, and specific companies. It provides references and abstracts for more than 1,000 journals and trade publications of which 600 are full text (ascii and/or Adobe Acrobat formats). The database is updated daily.  Indexing begins with 1970, and full text is available from1991.

CINAHL lists nursing and allied health articles from worldwide nursing and allied health literature. CINAHL provides access to about 1,200 nursing and allied health, consumer health, biomedical publications, and publications of the American Nurses Association and the National League for Nursing.  It also includes health care books, nursing dissertations, standards of professional practice, alternative/complementary therapies and educational software.  The coverage is from 1982 (Indexed articles) and 1986 (abstracted articles).  This database is updated monthly.  Full text is available for selected nursing standards, practice acts, pamphlets, state nursing journals, research instruments, and critical paths.

CLASSICAL LITERATURE PERSEUS is an extensive digital library of resources on the classical world, the English renaissance and the history of London from its founding to the 19th century. This integrated collection of textual and visual materials includes primary and secondary full-text literary sources, linguistic tools, atlases and archaeological and art image databases. It is particularly valuable to classicists and other scholars in the humanities.

CLASSICAL MUSIC LIBRARY: The Classical Music Library is the world's first on-line streaming classical music collection for listening on computers in the library or at home. Provided by Classical, it is a complete collection of recordings with a supplementary reference database that may be searched or browsed simultaneously while listening to the music it provides.

CRIMINAL JUSTICE ABSTRACTS indexes journal articles, books, and reports on criminology and related disciplines and provides a summary of findings, methodology, and conclusions.  Topics include crime trends, prevention projects, corrections, juvenile delinquency, police, courts, offenders, victims, and sentencing.  It covers the period 1968 to the present.

CRIMINAL JUSTICE: NCJRS ABSTRACTS summarizes more than 160,000 criminal justice publications, including Federal, State, and local government reports, books, research reports, journal articles and unpublished research.  The NCJRS site search contains over 1,500 full-text publications.  Subject areas include corrections, courts, drugs and crime, law enforcement, juvenile justice, crime statistics, and victims of crime.  The period covered is from the early 1970s to the present.

DISSERTATION ABSTRACTS includes American dissertations and selected master’s theses from accredited universities.  Dissertations published since 1997 provide 24 page previews, and the complete dissertations can be purchased online. Since mid-1980 there are extensive abstracts of the dissertations.  Earlier dissertations provide citations only.  Subject coverage includes agriculture, astronomy, biology, chemistry, education, engineering, fine arts and music, geography and regional planning, heath sciences, history and political science, language and literature, library and information science, mathematics and statistics, philosophy and religion, physics, psychology and sociology.

EBSCO Online is a database that provides access to the full text of over 250 journals currently subscribed to by the Seton Hall University Library. A list of the University Library's online journals is available from the Library Homepage. In addition, EBSCO also provides access to citations and abstracts of articles from thousands of journals in all subject areas.

ENVIRONMENT INFORMATION is the website for the National Council for Science and the Environment, produced by the National Library for the Environment. The site leads to much information, including jobs, funding, and a series of downloadable New Reports and Issue Briefs, which are organized in reverse chronological order or by such categories as Agriculture, Air Quality, Biodiversity, Climate Change, Economics Tax & Trade, Energy, Natural Resources, Pesticides, Pollution, Population, Risk Assessment, and much more.

ERIC is the world's largest source of education information, containing more than one million abstracts of journal articles and documents on education research and practice. The database indexes the contents of approximately 1,000 major education and education-related journals. The documents indexed are often referred to as "fugitive" documents, as many are conference proceedings, reports, lesson plans, and other items that are not readily available elsewhere. Indexing covers the years from 1966 to the present.

ETHNIC NEWSWATCH is a full-text database of the newspapers, magazines, and journals of the ethnic, minority, and native press in English and Spanish language.  These 200+ titles represent the diversity of the American population in ways that are generally not seen in the mainstream media.  These comprise an unequaled collection of articles, editorials, and reviews that provide a valuable interdisciplinary flavor to a wide range of current and historical topics.

FACTS ON FILE ON-LINE DATABASES are a useful interdisciplinary and interactive reference tool, which contains such database categories as science, history, multicultural studies, career guidance, forms, and K-12 curriculum resources. It provides authentic and current records of event information for researchers. 

GPO ACCESS DATABASE LIST produced by the Government Printing Office, a legislative branch agency, offers guided access to more than 70 defined agency databases.  They include the Budget; Code of Federal Regulations; Commerce Business Daily; Congressional Bills, Directories, Hearings, Record, Reports, etc.; Economic Indicators; Federal Register; General Accounting Office (GAO) Decisions and Reports; Government Information Locator Service (GILS) Records; Privacy Act Notices; Supreme Court Decisions; U.S. Government Manual; and Weekly Compilation of Presidential Documents.

GENDER WATCH is a full text database of publications, archived as far back as the 1970s, that focus on the impact of gender across a broad spectrum of subject areas. Publications include academic and scholarly journals, magazines, newspapers, newsletters, regional publications, books, booklets and pamphlets, conference proceedings, and government, non-government organizations, and special reports.

GRANTS RESEARCH DATABASE is a comprehensive research database with information about 21,000 international grants. It Includes project and funding information, links to organizational websites, and the ability to bookmark sites and send via email to oneself or a colleague.

HISTORICAL ABSTRACTS features thousands of annotated references and bibliographic citations on a wide-range of people, places, and specific events which had an impact on shaping world history.  Published since 1954, Historical Abstracts covers topics dealing with global development (outside of the United States and Canada which are covered in America: History and Life) from 1450 to the present day.  The database provides access to over 2,000 journals, and 20,000 new citations are added every year.  Historical Abstracts also features partial full-text capability accessible through the JSTOR database available through the Seton Hall University Libraries.  

Ingenta, formerly called CARL UNCOVER, offers free searching and browsing of over 25,000 article titles in the sciences, humanities, and the social sciences. Articles may be ordered through online, Ariel, or fax delivery for a fee.

JSTOR is an archive or backfile collection of 120 scholarly journals in the arts and sciences dating back to the 1800s. JSTOR, (pronounced jay'-store), is an acronym for Journal STORage.  It is searchable by subject, keyword, author, and title. Due to agreements with the publishers, JSTOR does not include current issues of journals; the most recently published issue of any current journal will not appear in JSTOR until 2-5 years after the publishing date.

Includes annual financial data for three years, business ratios, business description, company history, and links to SEC’s Edgar filings for one year. Provides country profiles of economic conditions.

Military & Government Collection designed to offer current news pertaining to all branches of the military, this database offers a thorough collection of periodicals, academic journals and other content pertinent to the increasing needs of those sites. The Military & Government Collection provides cover-to-cover full text for nearly 300 journals and periodicals. The database also includes full text for 245 pamphlets and offers indexing and abstracts for nearly 400 titles. Some publications covered in this database include are Air Force Controller, Army Reserve Magazine, Defense Studies, Global Security Review, Joint Force Quarterly, Military Technology, National Review, Defense, Combat Edge, FBI Law Enforcement Bulletin, Foreign Affairs, Military Technology, Naval Forces, and many more. MLA INTERNATIONAL BIBLIOGRAPHY Is the premier database for research on topics related to literature, language, linguistics and folklore.  Coverage began in 1963, and it is updated 10 times a year.  The MLA indexes over 6,000 sources and includes over 1.3 million citations. These include scholarly journals, monographs, working papers and conference proceedings.

MUSIC LITERATURE (International Index to Music Periodicals (IIMP Full Text)) draws content from more than 300 international music periodicals from over 20 countries with over 40 Full Text titles. IIMP Full Text also indexes articles from over 165 periodicals dating back as far as 1874. Included in the current and retrospective content are 29 complete-run titles, from inception to the present (or final) issue, and many partial run titles. IIMP Full Text covers nearly all aspects of the world of music, from the most scholarly studies to the latest crazes.

OXFORD ENGLISH DICTIONARY offers information on word origins, etymologies, literary, historical and scientific quotations in addition to the meaning and use of these expressions throughout the course of English language development.  The online version also allows for the convenient searching of words based on definition and how they are used in the context of illustrative quotation usage.

NURSING JOURNALS/ PROQUEST offers complete information from leading nursing and related publications, this database is designed to meet the needs of researchers at health-care facilities as well as students enrolled in nursing programs at academic institutions. All the source publications are available in the ASCII full-text format. Nearly all of them also offer articles in the full-image and Text+Graphics formats.

PATROLOGIA LATINA is mainly a theological database which serves as the electronic version of Jacques-Paul Migne's work published between 1844-1855 along with a four volume index added between 1862-1865. The Patrologia Latina includes the works of the Church Fathers from Tertullian in 200 A.D. to the death of Pope Innocent III in 1216.

PHILOSOPHER’S INDEX  offers references and abstracts on a number of distinctive fields related to the overall study of philosophy including ethics, aesthetics, social, political, epistemology, metaphysical logic, religion and science among others.  The database indexes over 480 journals and selected books and anthologies from over 38 countries published since1940.

Primary Search designed specifically for elementary school libraries and public library children's rooms, contains full text for more than 60 popular, elementary school magazines. All full text articles are assigned a reading level indicator (Lexiles). In addition to the full text, this database offers indexing and abstracts for nearly 100 magazines. Full text is also available for over 100 student pamphlets. PROJECT GUTENBERG is a database of electronic books started by Michael Hart in 1971 in order to provide free access to famous and important texts. Since then, he has been joined by hundreds of volunteers who share his vision. Now, almost thirty years later, Project Gutenberg publishes an average of one e-text every day! Most Project Gutenberg e-texts are in the public domain. Some Project Gutenberg e-texts have copyright restrictions.

PROJECT MUSE provides access to the full-text of over 100 scholarly journals in the fields of literature and criticism, history, the visual and performing arts, cultural studies, education, political science, gender studies, and many others. Coverage for selected Project MUSE titles begins with volumes as early as 1993.

PsycArticles provides the full-text of psychology-related articles from more than 50 APA (American Psychological Association) and selected EPF (Educational Publishing Foundation) journals. Most coverage starts with 1987, unless otherwise noted. Articles from this database are provided in HTML format for direct viewing and printing, and are indexed in PsycInfo.

PsycINFO is the bibliographic database that contains citations and abstracts for articles appearing in more than 1,600 scientific journals, technical reports, and doctoral dissertations relevant to psychology. It also contains citations and abstracts for psychology book chapters . Produced by the American Psychological Association (APA), it is a very comprehensive database covering psychology publications from 1887 to the present.

PUBSCIENCE is a World Wide Web service developed by the Department of Energy's (DOE) Office of Scientific and Technical Information (OSTI) to facilitate searching and accessing peer reviewed journal literature in the physical sciences and other energy-related disciplines.  Journal coverage goes back as far as the 1970’s.

RIA CHECKPOINT contains comprehensive federal and state tax information, including tax news alerts, an estate planning library, international tax information, and editorial commentary and explanation. 

SCIENCE DIRECT, database from Elsevier, provides access to more than1000 periodicals from 1995 to present.  About 450 periodicals are available full-text.  ScienceDirect covers the following field: Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Engineering and Technology, Environmental Science, Economics, Business and Management Science, Neuroscience, Pharmacology and Toxicology, Physics, Mathematics and Computer Science, Earth Science, Social Science, Biochemistry, Microbiology and Immunology, and Clinical Medicine.  Articles are in full text image (PDF files).

SCIFINDER SCHOLAR is an electronic version of Chemical abstracts providing direct access to more than 8000 journal and patent references (from over 32 patent-issuing organizations). It includes more than 30 million substance records and CAS Registry Numbers. Users can search the chemical literature (journals and patents) through a variety of ways: author name, research topic, substance identifier, chemical structure or chemical reaction. The CAS databases are a comprehensive collection of published chemical literature. SciFinder Scholar is a client-based software available to Seton Hall uathorized users only.

SOCIOLOGICAL ABSTRACTS indexes and abstracts worldwide journals, serials, reviews, discussions, monographs, panel discussions, case studies, conference papers, and dissertations on sociological topics in anthropology, economics, education, medicine, community development, philosophy, demography, law, political science, religion, and social psychology.  It covers the period 1963 to the present.

VALUE LINE lNVESTMENT SURVEY is one of the most widely used independent investment information services in the world. It covers 1,700 stocks classified into 90 industries. For each stock it offers information on price performance, projections of key financial measures, and concise, objective commentary on current operations and future prospects.

WALL STREET JOURNAL provides the current day’s online issue and a searchable 30-day archive of full text articles.  In addition there is a 30-day archive of Barron’s Weekly Financial Newspaper.

WESTLAW provides access to federal, state, and international legal materials including the text of cases, laws, law reviews, legal texts and encyclopedias.  There are topical materials by area of practice among them criminal justice, health and medicine, and international law.  Compared to Lexis Nexis, Academic Universe, WESTLAW provides more databases and search options, but it is also more difficult to use.

xrefplus is a giant online reference library that provides access to 150 reference books. It includes encyclopedias, dictionaries, thesauri and books of quotations, not to mention a range of subject-specific titles that include everything from art to accountancy and literature to law.
