Access Policy to the Federal Depository Library Collection


In conformance with Title 44, U.S. Code, Chapter 19, which provides the laws governing the Federal Depository Library Program, U.S. Government information in the University Library is “available for the free use of the general public.”

As outlined in "Instructions to Depository Libraries" the University Library policy as applied to the general public includes:

  • access to the Library and to its Federal Depository Collection,
  • sign-in on the guest register,
  • adherence "to the same standards of behavior expected of other library patrons,"
    free use of Depository publications disseminated through the Federal Depository Library Program in paper, microform, and electronic formats, including CD-ROMS, DVDs and the Internet,
  • free use of a dedicated computer workstation,
  • guidance on the use of Government resources as provided on the Library’s Federal Government pathfinder, and
  • reference service on the use of all Federal Government publications during the Library’s reference desk hours.
