Acknowledgements

Henry Gasser, born in Newark, spent the last twenty years of his life as a resident of South Orange in close proximity to the University. During that time he had an ongoing relationship with Seton Hall and the Department of Art and Music. He had two exhibitions at Seton Hall- one in 1969 and a Retrospective Exhibition in September- October 1981, just before his death. His memory lives on today in the two paintings that are part of the permanent art collection of the University and through the scholarship established in his will for art students. Since 1986 more than 25 students have been the recipient of a Henry Gasser Scholarship in amounts from $500 - $2,000. We are pleased to welcome his work back to the University and to Walsh Library Gallery- to acquaint a new generation of students with his work and his vision.

Grateful thanks to the curator, Gary T. Erbe, for his vision in bringing the work of Henry Gasser together in this exhibition. Seton Hall University is proud to be a participant in this very historical project. We thank The Butler Institute of American Art in Ohio for organizing this exhibit and The Morris Museum(NJ) and the Springfield Art Museum (MO) for their contributions and making this exhibition possible.

This exhibition would not have been possible without the help of many people. Warm thanks to our Seton Hall sponsors the Mutilcultural Program and the Department of Art and Music for their support of the exhibition and corresponding events, especially Dr. Larry Greene and Dr. Charlotte Nichols.

We are grateful to the many members of the Seton Hall University community who have contributed their talents to make this exhibit a success. A sincere thank you to Gallery Assistant Jeanette D’Onofrio for her assistance with this exhibition and to Gallery volunteer, Soo Hyun Lee. Continued thanks to Eva Gale, Alisdair McRae, Catherine Memory, Steve Carr, Xueming Bao, Kate Dodds, Marybeth Ferrigno, and the many Friends of Walsh Library Gallery.
