Walsh Library Gallery and Special Academic Programs celebrate Latino/a Heritage Month with the opening reception for the exhibition, "Elemental Fossils I: Works of Duda Penteado." The reception is free to the public and will be held on the first floor of the Walsh Library, where the gallery is located. The public will have the opportunity to meet with Penteado, who will be on hand to discuss his work.

The exhibition premieres the international tour of this important Brazilian artist, who will also be exhibiting his work in two Brazilian states and then ending the tour at New Jersey City University in October. Known for his paintings, sculptures and silk monotypes, he works in a variety of mediums including painting, canvas, wood, printmaking and sculpture from found objects.

Of his work, Penteado says, "My work reflects my personal understanding of the world, which I believe has a deformed nature of its own. The world is transforming at all times. It has been formed and again destroyed and again reborn. So my work is part of life and man lives his entire life forming and destroying. While searching for answers through my art, I find a mixture of techniques built during my artistic evolution. Among sculptures, paintings, drawings, printing and installations, I follow a thin line that divides the real and the unreal, the figurative and the abstract, the color and the absence of color, the big and the small."

Born in Sao Paulo, Brazil, Penteado developed his artistic mastery at Atelier with Dalton de Luca -Drawings, Elias Muradi - Contemporary Art, Antonio Millionica-Sculpture. He received his bachelor's degree in Advertising and Visual Arts at FIAM University, Sao Paulo, Brazil.  The 1997 "Artist of the Year" of The Palette Art Gallery in Jersey City, New Jersey, his exhibits include the "Three Man Show," Hahn Bros. & The Palette Art Gallery, Jersey City, New Jersey (1998); the "Gallery Szen-Györgyi," Falrouth, Massachusetts (1998); "Windows of the World," World Trade Center, New York (1998); "ARTexpo" Jacob K.
