This presentation will focus on how the game of basketball started, developed and succeeded as a major sport at the University from the Peach Basket to Big East play. A detailed history of the game will be featured, along with memorable accomplishments such as the 43-game winning streak in 1941, the National Invitational Tournament title team of 1953, the NCAA finalists of 1989, and such players and coaches as Brooks, Carlesimo, Davies, Dehere, Dukes, Mangina, Raftery, Regan, Werkman, and many others.

In addition, the introduction of brand new display cases in the Special Collections & Archives Center will also allow the public to view historical basketball memorabilia from our extensive school archival collection. The exhibit is open to the public and can be seen right now during regular library business hours. Feel free to examine and absorb the visual tradition of Pirate basketball prior to, and after the descriptive portion of this program.

All lectures are free and open to the public. For additional information please contact Alan Delozier, Special Collections & Archives Center at: x2378, or via e-mail at: delozial@shu.edu. Thank you in advance for your support!
