Political Campaign Buttons (1860-1992) Exhibit at the Special Collections and University Archives Center
In honor of Election Day, the Special Collections and University Archives Center proudly announces a month-long exhibition showcasing the history of American Political Campaign Buttons (1860-1992) which can be viewed at our display area on the first floor of the Walsh Library building between November 6-November 30, 2001. This exhibit created through the efforts of Student Worker Anuja Wadia and Archival Assistant Kate Dodds explores the evolution of political campaign buttons over the past 140 years. This colorful display showcases examples of campaign materials featuring such famed figures in American political history as Abraham Lincoln, Theodore Roosevelt, John F. Kennedy, Richard Nixon along with such memorable figures as Alfred E. Smith, Alf Landon, and Wendell Willkie to name a few. Informational captions explore such unique topics as Women and African-Americans in political life along with a history of campaign button collecting as well.
