HOW little is our pain, our hardships,
compared with those which Christ voluntarily
undertook for us! If He, the Sinless,
underwent these, what wonder is it
that we sinners should endure the hundredth
part of them?
If we felt them as we ought, they would be to
us, at seasons such as that now coming, far
worse than what the death of a friend is. We
should not be able at such times to take
pleasure in this world.
