Fitting your Screen on the Projector (Resolution)

Some individuals may have noticed that they are unable to get their screen to display properly on the temporary Common Area projector. This issue is particularly noticeable if you use your PC on "extender' mode (creating two, independent desktop screens) vs. "duplicator" mode (same desktop displayed on two screens).

If your display is "cut off" at the top and bottom of your screen (see below for an example), please follow the instructions outlined here to resolve the issue and project your display properly.

Example: Display Issue ("cut off")

Fixing the "Cut Off" Display Issue

  1. Right-click on your desktop and choose "Screen resolution."
  2. At the screen resolution menu, check to see whether your "Multiple displays" field is set to Duplicate these displays or Extend these displays.

If the answer to point #2 is "Extend these displays," follow these instructions:

  1. Under "Change the appearance of your displays," make sure display #2 is selected (highlighted in light blue around the border). The display type indicated will most likely be Generic Non-PnP Monitor.
  2. Drop-down the Resolution category and choose 1024 x 768 on the slider.
  3. Click "Apply" so the settings go into effect.
  4. Note that when you plug your laptop back into your original/desk monitor, you may need to change the resolution on display #2 back to its original value (so take note of it).

If the answer to point #2 is "Duplicate these displays," follow these instructions:

  1. Drop-down the Resolution category and choose 1024 x 768 on the slider.
  2. Click "Apply" so the settings go into effect.
  3. Note that when you plug your laptop back into your original/desk monitor, you may need to change the resolution back to its original value (so take note of it).
