The Msgr. William Noé Field Archives & Special
Collections Center features nearly 2,000 volumes on various aspects of
military history especially the American Civil War which are broken down
intro three separate libraries. The Gerald Murphy Civil War Collection
consists of approximately 500 volumes and features among other items a
holograph of the Treaty of Appomattox with the signatures of Generals
Ulysses Grant and Robert Lee and a medal commissioned by Congress to
commemorate General Grant's four major victories during the conflict. A
recent acquisition which compliments the Murphy bequest is the Father Pierce
Byrne Civil War Collection which comprises over 500 volumes on various aspects of military, social and political life
during this period. Each collection continues to grow as new volumes are
added and the processing of individual titles are completed in
turn. The World Military Uniform & Arms Collection is a colorful grouping of
printed works, plates and drawings including around 500 volumes which
showcases the development of military dress, decoration and other aspects of
ceremony found among different armies and navies across the globe. For more
