Brendan T. Byrne Collection
(1973-1981). The former Democratic governor of New Jersey and current
political advisor/columnist for the Newark Star-Ledger. This collection includes

Richard J. Hughes
Collection (1962-1970). The former Democratic governor of New Jersey and
first Catholic elected to this particular office. After his term ended,
he was appointed Chief Justice of the State Supreme Court. This
collection includes his accumulated private papers, select public
documentation, photographs, scrapbooks and related materials. [65 cubic

Matthew J. Rinaldo Collection
(1972-1992). A former Republican member of the United States House of
Representatives from the 12th Congressional District. He served on the
House Energy and Commerce Committee, House Select Committee on Aging and
the Subcommittee on Telecommunications, Consumer Protection and Finance.
This collection includes his accumulated private, and select public papers.

Marcus Daly papers (1908-1968).
Former Director of the Intergovernmental Committee for European Migration,
Monmouth County Republican politician and author of the "Daly Plan" to
solve the problem of training European immigrant workers in Latin America.

Leonard Dreyfuss Collection
(1788-1977). Former President of the United Advertising Corporation and
Director of Civil Defense for New Jersey during World War II. This
collection includes his accumulated private papers and various

Bernard Shanley III Collection
(1838-1975). A former political advisor and Republican National Committee
official representing New Jersey. He served at various times as Deputy
Chief of Staff and Special Counsel to President Dwight Eisenhower. This

Msgr. John Oesterreicher Collection
(1904-1993). Founder of the Seton Hall University Christian Studies
Department and internationally recognized Institute of Judaeo-Christian
Studies. This collection includes his accumulated private papers and a
library of over 2,000 volumes in four languages which document a wide
array of theological, philosophical and historical issues pertaining to
the Jewish and Christian experiences on a world level. [50 cubic feet, appox.]

Msgr. Walter Jarvis
Collection (1911-2002). Former faculty member at Seton Hall University
who taught English, served as Chair of the Religion Department and
Spiritual Director of the Immaculate Conception Seminary during his
tenure at the school. Among the first priests from the Archdiocese of
Newark to join the Armed Services as a Chaplain in the U.S. Merchant
Marines during World War II. This collection includes biographical data,
sermon notes, retreat information and various academic papers. [14 cubic
feet, appox.]

Seton-Jevons Letter Collection (1782-1963). The
combined correspondence and papers of the prolific Seton and Jevons
families. Among the notable items found here is a series of letters
written by Mother Seton's granddaughter Elizabeth during the Civil
War. These letters document the search for her missing brother
William Jr. and give graphic accounts of Confederate prisons and
hospitals. Of particular interest are the letters of William Stanley
Jevons, a distinguished economist, logician and social scientist.
This collection includes over 5,000 items related to three
generations of family members related to St. Elizabeth Ann Bayley
Seton, patroness of the University and first American-born saint in

Sister Marie
Celeste papers, 1963-1998. A Sister of Charity and noted-author scholar on
the life and work of Mother Seton. This collection includes her published
work along with an extensive set of note cards, source papers and academic
