Biography Information

Sister Marie Celeste is a noted author, Sister of Charity, and professor of French Studies at Loyola University. She has been involved in higher education, specifically the study of foreign language, for the majority of her life. Sister Marie Celeste received her Master's Degree in French Studies in 1956 and her Doctorate in French Language and Literature in 1959 from Laval University. She has served as professor of French Studies at the University of Ottawa, Seton Hill College, and Loyola University. From 1971-1973, she served as Director of Foreign Languages in the Illinois State Office of the Superintendent. During her time as director, Sister Marie Celeste changed the requirements and the way in which foreign language would be taught in elementary, secondary, and post-secondary schools throughout Illinois.

In 1975, after traveling to Rome for the canonization ceremonies for Elizabeth Ann Seton, Sister Marie Celeste was encouraged to write a book on the spirituality of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton by Monsignor Pasquale and Pope Paul VI. Sister Marie Celeste devoted the next ten years to researching the life and spirituality of Elizabeth Ann Seton through her personal letters and diaries. In 1984, Elizabeth Ann Seton: A Self Portrait; A Story of Her Spirituality in Her Own Words was published. Sister Marie Celeste has gone on to write The Intimate Friendships of Elizabeth Anne Bayley Seton, Elizabeth Ann Seton: A Woman of Prayer, and developed the script for Elizabeth Anne Seton: A Citizen of the World; From Dawn to Sunset Glow.
