This organization is active in: "Providing leadership and resources to preserve, interpret, and promote Irish and Irish American Cultures." There are two local concerns in New Jersey including the John Walsh/Jersey Shore Chapter - http://www.iaci-usa.org/iacijerseyshorechapter.html and the Northern New Jersey Chapter that is working to help promote the cultural history of Ireland in various ways.
The Irish American Association of North West Jersey (IAANWJ) was founded in 1974 when a small group realized how many Irish people had relocated to the area, as well as the many of Irish decent already living there. The newly formed association met for the first few years in the St Mary's School in Wharton. The IAANWJ's main goal is to promote and preserve Irish Culture and to create an awareness of the contribution the Irish made and continue to make in building this great country. In addition to hosting a variety of cultural events throughout the year, classes in Irish step dancing, Adult Ceili dancing and Irish music and language. The IAANWJ jointly runs the Morris County St Patrick's Day Parade with the Friendly Sons of St Patrick, which is held in Morristown each year.
The Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians was organized in Omaha, Nebraska in 1894 as the Daughters of Erin. The Organization pledged itself to God and Country. In 1906 at the National Convention of the Order at Saratoga Springs the Ladies received permission from the National Chaplain (Archbishop Farley of New York) and the National President of the AOH to function as a separate organization. The name was changed to Ladies Auxiliary to the Ancient Order of Hibernians in America. In 1984 at the National Constitution Convention of the Order held in Albany, NY, the Ladies voted to change their name to The Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians.
