IRB for DNP Students

Conflict of Interest?

What is Conflict of Interest?

A conflict of interest (COI) in research happens when an SHU researcher has personal, professional, business, or financial interests outside the university that could:

  • Bias the research (change how the study is done or reported),
  • Influence decisions or actions related to their SHU responsibilities,
  • Benefit themselves or a family member in a way that hurts SHU.

Using Data from Your Place of Employment

To use data from your place of employment for a research thesis, you must obtain formal, written permission from the company, which is a crucial ethical and legal requirement, and disclose your plan to your research supervisor for guidance.

Approval by the student's place of employment for their thesis does not constitute IRB approval.
