3D Digitisation

The Museum of the Catholic University of Lublin (KUL), together with staff from the Department of Computer Science at Lublin University of Technology and the Archdiocesan Museum in Lublin, have begun collaboration on a project involving the 3D scanning of liturgical vestments. It is believed to be the first project of its kind in Poland. The 3D digitisation concerns 3 chasubles from the KUL Museum and 3 liturgical vestments from the Archdiocesan Museum. The scanning is being carried out by staff associated with the '3D Lab' of the Department of Computer Science under the direction of Professor Jerzy Montusiewicz. Digitisation of the liturgical vestments: chasubles, tunics and capes is carried out using several technologies: laser scanning, structured light scanning and photogrammetry. The aim of this approach to transferring scanned vestments to the digital world is to conduct research into the usefulness and effectiveness of individual technologies for such objects as liturgical vestments. The collection of the Museum of the Catholic University of Lublin currently holds ca. 50 historic vestments (from the 18th to the beginning of the 20th century).

Sculptures

The collection of the Museum of the Catholic University of Lublin contains dozens of sacred sculptures. These range from 15th-century Gothic Madonna and Child figures, through Gothic altar cabinets, to full-plastic Baroque sacred sculptures. The KUL Museum has one of the largest and at the same time most valuable collections of modern altar plastics in Poland.
