Tasks to Work On

Worklist

Easy beginner tasks:

  • Art + Feminism Task List These are lists of wikipedia pages for artists that need edits that have been identified by the Art + Feminism organization.

Adding Categories to a Page (very easy task)

  1. Find a page to edit. Click the “edit” tab and change the workspace to a “visual workspace” by clicking the pencil icon and changing the setting there (if the space is already a visual workspace, you can skip this step). To the left of this icon is a “hamburger” menu, which is a menu with 3 horizontal lines. From there, click on Categories.
  2. A new menu will pop up, and in the “Add a Category” type box, you can start typing a word and Wikipedia will look through their controlled vocabulary to try to find a category that is already created and matches. You can create your own categories as well, but these will be reviewed by Wikipedia and may or may not be approved.
  3. The idea behind adding categories to articles is to connect a page to more subjects (kind of like hashtags), so that when users are searching for “female artists” the artist you are working on will be a search result. Many of the categories that are currently within articles are not quite descriptive enough, or do not make the article well rounded for search results. Adding categories increases visibility of these articles and is a great and easy way to contribute to Wikipedia.

Advanced task (for more experienced editors):

Want to start a page for an artist not on Wikipedia? Remember to check the Notability requirements. Check in with the Event Organizer to discuss this.
