You can think of functions in two ways:
- Security/Company specific functions are dependent on a security being loaded.
- Example: If you type DES <GO>, which displays a company's description and overview, without a security/company the function will have nothing to display.
- Example: If you load a company like Microsoft, MSFT <GO>, and then type FA <GO>, company fundamentals, Microsoft Corp's financial information will display.
- Non-security/company specific functions are not dependent on a security being loaded.
- Example: If you type MA <GO>, which tracks mergers and acquisitions, information about all mergers and acquisitions would display, not just a merger or acquisition of a specified company.
- Example: If you type BI <GO>, Bloomberg Intelligence, all research done on all industries will be displayed, not just for research on a specific company.
Example functions:
DES <GO> Company description and overview
CN <GO> Company news
HP <GO> Historical price table
GP <GO> Historical price chart
GIP <GO> Intraday price chart
DVD <GO> Dividend information
ERN <GO> Earnings summary
FA <GO> Fundamentals and financial statements
DDIS <GO> Debt distribution
RELS <GO> Capital structure (including bonds and CDS spreads)
G <GO> Technical analysis and/or Multi-security charts
