- NYPL's website states that, "When applying for a New York Public Library card in person, or providing proof of their identity to validate a card received in the mail, an applicant must show proof that he/she lives, works, attends school, or pays property taxes in New York State"
- If you do not live, work, attend school, or pay property taxes in New York State, you can request a temporary, 3 month library card.

- New Jersey State Library
- To get a State Library card, New Jersey residents, state university employees, college students attending school in New Jersey, and anyone employed in New Jersey must visit the State Library in person

- With this card, you may borrow one physical book or audiobook at a time and use the onsite computers for database access.
- Borrowed material must be picked up in person but can be mailed back.
- This collection is available through interlibrary loan.
